Surtruck has just received recognition for its commitment to sustainability. The company has been undergoing the process of calculating and registering its carbon footprint in the National Carbon Footprint Register of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITERD) for seven years, that is to say, since the start of its activity. For the first time, this body has awarded the company the official Carbon Neutral seal, which ratifies Surtruck’s commitment to mitigating climate change and offsetting its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Until now, the company has been awarded the “Calculo” and “Reduzco” (I calculate and I reduce) recognition, to now hold the highest level in this latest certification: “Compenso” (I compensate).
According to Antonio Venegas, Sales Director for Road Cleaning, Surtruck is very pleased to have achieved this distinction, which is unusual in its sector, to the extent that no other company in the sector currently holds this environmental certification.
By virtue of the approved project, Surtruck offsets its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions for the year 2020, something it has achieved with the help of the consultancy Ecoterrae Global Solutions SL who, after quantifying all of Surtruck’s emissions, designed a Reduction Plan for their mitigation. The approved project is divided into two lines of compensation: one of them by the hand of the United Nations in India. This international initiative contributes to the reduction of GHG emissions and provides clean and renewable energy to several local grids. The offset scheme also generates social benefits by boosting direct and indirect employment opportunities for the population, helping to alleviate poverty and reduce income disparity in the area.
Surtruck has also offset part of its emissions during 2020 within the national territory, in a burnt forest land in the province of Ourense. The area was burnt down in Vilardevos, where Pinus pinaster and Castanea sativa will now be planted on the burnt forest land, as a result of Surtruck’s commitment to caring for the planet.
