He has just landed in the Madrid office as the new manager. José Julián María Díaz is in charge of three technicians and two mechanics with whom he has to pilot the growth of Surtruck in the capital of Spain, a strategic point for the expansion that the Sevillian company has designed when it has just surpassed its first decade of existence.
Q.- What is your professional experience?
A.- Well, my whole life has been as a salesman. I have worked in leading multinationals in different sectors, such as Bridgestone and Continental in tires, Telefónica, Toyota, in the Kion group, in Ibercarretillas… 23 years in total.
Q.-A background that brings a lot of knowledge. What attracted you to the position in Madrid?
A.-I am very enthusiastic about this responsibility. I needed a new challenge, a change of sector, and this opportunity has arisen.
Q.- What objectives have you set for yourself?
A.- To make the delegation grow and to fulfill the interesting expectations that the company has in Madrid as the epicenter of the national expansion.
Q.- What personnel are you in charge of?
A.- Three technicians and two mechanics. The idea is to continue growing by increasing our clients here.
Q.- Has it been difficult for you to adapt, to learn the peculiarities of Surtruck?
A.- I am still working on it. This is a company that has a complex work design. There are many procedures that you have to know so that all the departments are interrelated, both in manufacturing and in after-sales or in the commercial area. You have to understand the whole process very well to know the procedures that are in place, to understand customer relations… Little by little I am getting to know all these peculiarities.
Q.- What do you think of Surtruck’s products? The equipment, its technology…
A.- I find them very interesting. They have made a huge effort for technology, for going ahead, for innovation… The narrow firefighting vehicles have been pioneers, and the water drive system, which allows a 50% saving, seems to me something basic with the shortage we are suffering… There is very good raw material to show, and that is a sure value. We have invested a lot in R+D+i, to be a sustainable company and to prove it, the products are also certified and patented… but what I value most is that we are able to offer a “tailor-made suit” to the customers, with the configuration that adapts to what they really need. Working in a company that responds to any demand that the customer proposes is for me the greatest peace of mind and satisfaction.
Passionate about nature and the family
This native of Madrid, who studied Pharmacy at the University of Alcalá de Henares and later opted for the commercial world, is passionate about nature and his family. He likes walking in the mountains, enjoying natural environments, hunting and climbing. “I am a climber, climbing is one of my biggest hobbies. I also love motorcycles,” he explains. But the best moments are the ones he enjoys quietly with his wife, Rocío, with his daughter Daniela and with his little dog Chispa. “They are the most important thing for me,” he concludes.
