The Light Urban Pump recently delivered to the Toledo City Council is already operating at full capacity in the narrow streets of the city centre, increasing the efficiency of the service thanks to its reduced dimensions. The commercial director of Vehículos Contraincendios, Manuel Santana, explained that the BUL is working at full capacity in the narrow streets of Toledo’s city centre, after its delivery a few weeks ago.
The vehicle, which was handed over to the mayoress of the city, Milagros Tolón, is specially designed for the narrowest areas of the city centre, most of which are very small.
The vehicle is equipped with the most advanced technology, has a fire extinguishing pump with the latest technological advances, as well as the best safety and ergonomics. With capacity for four firefighters, the seats have supports for approved self-contained breathing apparatus, an 800-litre water tank, a 1.85-metre wide body, which allows them to enter areas that are difficult to access, a total length of 5.1 metres and a height of 2.85 metres. It has approved fall-arrest rails on the roof of the vehicle, a turning radius of 4.9 metres, a vehicle engine power of 150 hp, combined pump for fire extinguishing, low and high pressure with flow rates of 1000 litres per minute at 10 bar in the low stage and 250 litres per minute at 40 bar in the high stage. It also has a pressure regulator built into the pump which allows constant water pressure regardless of the flow rate demanded.
The mayoress highlighted the importance of this vehicle for the service, which has been designed by Surtruck exclusively for Toledo City Council, adjusting it to the needs and characteristics of the service to be provided. Its narrow design allows it to access the most difficult places and, in the words of the councillor, “with this addition, the City Council has made significant progress in terms of the effectiveness of interventions in accidents that may occur in the narrowest areas of our emblematic historic centre, a peace of mind for everyone”.
